Nancy
Eckels
Nancy
was born in Kingston, N.Y., and grew up in Utah. After high school
she attended the U.S. International School of Performing and Visual
Arts in San Diego, California where she earned a BFA degree, and concentrated
on acting and musical theater.
Nancy
was a late bloomer when it came to the world of art. A different creative
career preceded her move into painting. Always wanting to work in
show business, she followed that direction and, after several years
and many different television jobs, she became a director on the CBS
daytime drama, "The Bold and the Beautiful". But eventually,
the lack of control over her creative endeavors convinced her that
she needed to get herself into a career where she could work at something
that needed less collaboration and would use more of her own creative
abilities.
It
was only in passing that Nancy had ever thought of pursuing painting
as a career. She had dabbled at it a bit throughout her life, but
never seriously. Devotion to her career in television and lack of
time prvented any move in that direction. However, once the decision
was made to give painting a full time try, given her family background,
it seemed like the most natural transition she could make. Her parents
met in an oil painting class, and her mother still continues to paint
and sculpt into her eighties. Her sister is an artist as are many
of her aunts and uncles. Nancy considers herself a self-obtained a
wealth of art knowledge by growing up around talented, artistic family
members. A constant curiosity about art, an occasional workshop, and
ongoing reading and studying of art books add to the art education
she is still and always will be, pursuing.
Nancy
creates abstract paintings with uninhibited use of color, and texture.
She uses acrylic paint, acrylic ink, collage, and various other materials
depending on the painting. She enjoys the freedom of letting each
piece evolve as she works, with little initial planning.
Art
festivals and fairs as well as galleries have given her great venues
to show and sell her work. Her creations can be found in homes and
businesses nationwide. Nancy's move into the art world has afforded
her a chance to never retire, work at home, travel only when and where
she pleases, and to pursue something about which she is truly passionate.
Nancy
and her husband, Don, live in Canyon Country, CA. where she paints
and paints and paints.
